ASO Recommendations
Get AI-powered, personalized recommendations to optimize your app's App Store metadata and improve discoverability and downloads.
Overview
The ASO Recommendations engine analyzes your app's current App Store performance and generates tailored suggestions based on:
- Your current keyword rankings in the App Store.
- Competitor metadata strategies and market positioning.
- App Store algorithm requirements and best practices.
- Your app's category, audience, and growth goals.
Types of recommendations
Title optimization
Your app title is the most important ranking factor in app store search.
Keyword placement
- Include your primary keyword within the first 15 characters when possible.
- Balance your brand name with a high-value keyword.
- Stay within character limits: 30 characters for iOS, 50 characters for Android.
Title testing
- A/B test title variations to measure performance impact before committing.
- Use performance prediction to estimate ranking changes before publishing.
Description optimization
Keyword integration
- Place the most important keywords in the first two sentences (shown without tapping "more").
- Use keywords naturally — avoid keyword stuffing, which can trigger App Store filters.
- Include long-tail and semantically related keywords throughout the description.
Conversion optimization
- Lead with your app's strongest benefit — not a generic description of what it does.
- Include a clear call to action in the first paragraph.
- Add social proof (ratings, download counts, notable users) to build trust.
Visual asset recommendations
App icon
- Align with current design trends in your category for immediate recognition.
- Ensure the icon is clear and recognizable at small display sizes.
- A/B test icon variations in supported markets before a full rollout.
Screenshots
- Order screenshots to tell a story — lead with your strongest feature.
- Add concise, benefit-focused text overlays to each screenshot.
- Follow platform-specific size and device frame guidelines.
- Localize screenshot text and visuals for your top markets.
Keyword strategy
Keyword field (iOS)
- iOS allows a 100-character keyword field separate from your title and description.
- Don't repeat keywords already in your title — use the field for additional terms.
- Use all 100 characters — don't leave them unused.
Competitive keywords
- Target gaps where competitors rank in the top 10 but you don't appear at all.
- Add defensive keywords to protect your branded App Store search results.
- Identify low-competition, high-relevance keywords for quick visibility wins.
AI-powered insights
Performance prediction
Before making changes, SearchVector estimates:
| Prediction | Description |
|---|---|
| Ranking improvement | Expected position change for target keywords |
| Download impact | Estimated change in organic installs |
| Time to results | Typical timeframe for App Store changes to take effect (usually 1–2 weeks) |
Risk assessment
Understand the potential downside before making changes:
- Ranking volatility — some changes cause temporary fluctuations before stabilizing.
- Brand impact — significant title changes can affect brand recognition.
- Recovery time — how long before rankings stabilize if a change underperforms.
Optimization priority
SearchVector categorizes recommendations by urgency:
| Priority | Timeframe | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate | 0–7 days | Add missing keywords, fix truncated titles |
| Short-term | 1–4 weeks | Rewrite description, overhaul screenshots |
| Long-term | 1–6 months | Build category authority, expand to new markets |
Implementation guidance
Before making changes
- Record your current keyword rankings as a baseline.
- Screenshot your current metadata for reference.
- If possible, test changes in a smaller regional market first.
After making changes
- Wait at least 7–14 days before evaluating results — App Store algorithm changes take time to propagate.
- Monitor your keyword rankings in SearchVector daily during the evaluation period.
- Compare rankings and install rates against your pre-change baseline.
Avoid making multiple significant changes at the same time. If you change your title, description, and screenshots simultaneously, you won't know which change drove a positive or negative result.
Start with Immediate priority recommendations. These are quick, low-risk changes that can show measurable results within a week.
